hierArch Group

hierARCH is a group comprised of Christiaan, Julian and Jordan. We are currently in our second year studying Architecture at the University of Auckland.

Our project for the second semester is to construct a sky-rise tower with a minimum height of 8 metres and maximum of 10 metres with a base of 2 metres by 2 metres.

We have been assigned with current architects Chris Holmes and Anna Tong who will be our tutors for this semester. They want us to focus on the Assembly of parts which create a whole, and as such can be read at various scales: from individual components through to complete assemblies, and beyond to collectively form a built environment.

We are to select and research up to three materials of choice in order to gain a thorough understanding of their physical properties, availability and cost. With the use of materials we chose we are to purpose a hierarchy, from a minimum of one through to a maximum of three materials.

The use of light is to be considered as an integral component of our project, informing manipulation of materials and from.

Our completed sky-rise will be displayed at 101 Halsey Street, The Viaduct on the 16th of October which will be open to the public to view and engage with.
